Dale was my first 'sponsor' in AA. I assigned him that service commitment on the day I received my 1 month 'chip'.
From that point on, I grabbed on to his shirt tail and went to almost every AA meeting after that (every night)for about the first year. We laughed together, we cried together, I bore my soul to him.
His death was untimely, and undignified. But his life was full of love, inspiration, hope, trust, faith, forgiveness, and willingness to share every bit of that with the strangest of strangers, (and believe me, there are some strange people who walk in the doors of AA, and they are just as important and significant as anyone else in the room.)
Sadly, Dale fell into a hole of deep depression, and sought help for quite awhile, trying medication, counseling, and prayer. But whatever was holding him down there would not let go. In his mind he saw no way out but giving up all together.
I have been clean and sober for over six years as I write this, and I seriously doubt that without Dale in my life, at the begining, I would have made it this far.
Dale, I miss you so much, and so often I think "I wish Dale was here to see this"...and I realize that you are.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
