Ervin W. Hicks, 78, of Bradshaw, a native of Erath County, died at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday in North Runnels Hospital after a brief illness. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Winters Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.
The Rev. Fred Thomas of First Baptist Church in Winters will officiate. Burial will be in Bradshaw Cemetery.
Born Sept. 25, 1902, in Erath County, he came to Runnels County in 1923 and married Maggie Little Aug. 25, 1924, in Winters. He lived on a farm near Guion in Taylor County until moving to Roscoe in 1941. In 1947 he moved to Bradshaw where he had lived since. He was a member of Moro Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Hilley, Feb. 14, 1966.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Nolan of Rotan and Billy of Talpa; five daughters, Evelyn Matthews of Houston, Katherine Watson of Fort Sumner, N.M., Mildred Cartwright of Hobbs, N.M., Wanda Hanley of Potosi and Clara Folsom of Abilene; four brothers, Orville and Buster, both of Lubbock, Larence of Denver City, and Shorty of Brownfield; two sisters, Effie Roberts of Pecos and Avie Hicks of Odessa; 24 grandchildre and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jack Pierce, Jerry Baker, James Baker, Russell Grun, L.V. Reeves and A.K. Broadstreet.
