Alphonse A. Burnand
1858-1941
Katherine H. Burnand
1866-1923

After defeating Napoleon, the powers that be were interested in Swiss neutrality and agreed on a common declaration of guarantees for it. Winning powers were also interested in reducing French influence. So they decided, that Valais, Geneva and Neuchâtel, that had been associated members to the old Swiss confederation before Napoleon annexed them, should be part of Switzerland.

Some documents state that he was born in Switzerland & some say France.

Alphonse immigrated to the United States of America in 1869 with his step father, Henry Eifert, mother Regina & sister Mathilde Burnand. They arrived on the ship Bellona. By 1870 they were in St. Louis, MO.

After Alphonse finished school, he relocated to Leadville, CO in the 1880's where he was employed as an assayer & worked for a mining company. He married Katie Hodges 18 Aug 1886 in Chicago, IL. There were three children by this union: Juilette, Alphonse & Kathryn.

By 1907, he moved his family to the Los Angeles, CA area & continued to work in the mining industry.
