Birth: Jan. 29, 1921
Death: Mar. 16, 2005

Known professionally as Anthony George during his long acting career, he was actually born Octavio Gabriel George in Endicott, New York on January 29, 1921. However, friends and family knew him as both Ott and Tony. At the age of 6 years, the young boy fell in love with acting and from that time on, longed to enter the profession. His dream finally began to materialize when he moved to California in 1948, after serving in the Army during WWII. Mr. George began his professional career with 20th Century Fox where he received his first screen credit in 1950 in the film, Where the Sidewalk Ends. His extensive and prolific career would continue for almost four decades and include many stage, screen and television roles. His many television appearances read like a list of the top shows from the golden age of television including such classics as Zorro, Sea Hunt, Hawaiian Eye, The Untouchables, 77 Sunset Strip, Wagon Train, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and many more. In 1967, he took over the role of Burke Devlin on the popular gothic soap opera Dark Shadows and a long and successful association with daytime television began for him. Following Dark Shadows, George went on to play Dr. Tony Vincente on Search for Tomorrow (1970-75) and later Dr. Will Vernon on One Life to Live (1977-1984). Guest roles and commercial work continued until he retired from show business in the 1980s. Anthony George passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2005 at the age of 84. Cause of death: Lung condition. He was cremated. (bio by: Beth)
