A dear friend and very special lady.
I met Carla in 1969, in kindergarten at Francisco Elementary School. Carla did a little of everything throughout school. She was in music, athletics, cheer leading, clubs, and she was also a pretty good student. I don't know if I can honestly say she was everyone's friend, but I'd say she was pretty damn close to it. She was funny, she was honest, and she'd do anything to help a friend. She could tell a joke, and she could be the joke. She wasn't afraid to do or say something outrageous to get a reaction and stand back and laugh at herself. She was just a good, good person, very real, very down to earth. If you were standing looking down at the floor, she'd stand beside you and look down and ask you what was so interesting. She'd know that you were unhappy, she was just trying to lighten you up, and it would work.
We lost Carla to a horrifying act of selfishness, but it would make her very unhappy for us to dwell on what happened. Carla was a happy person who loved life, loved her family, her friends, and her life's calling, being an EMT.
I am very grateful that I got to know her and call her my friend.
