Eleanor was the youngest child of Daniel and Martha (Brown) Lucas and was born on the family farm located near Stockbridge, eight miles fromn Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. She was born sometime after her older brother Archibald who was born in 1804. The family moved soon after to Conquest, Cayuga County, New York where her father established a new farm. Eleanor had eight brothers and sisters, most of whom established themselves and their families around the Conquest-Cato area. Very little is known about Eleanor's youth, but it is known that she married a man named Stephen Van de Blarcom. (The family name is spelled several ways in the U S Census reports: usually by dropping the "de" in the name, Van Blaricum, VanBlaricom). One source indicated that they had several children; a boy named John who died about 1866, a second boy (name not known), and several other sons, seemed to be dead in 1891. One source mentions that her father at the age of seventy-three in September of 1835 went with Eleanor's older sister Amanda and her family to Washtenaw County, Michigan. He left his veneered bureau with Eleanor, who was married at that time, but took a lot of his household goods with him. The 1850 U S Census of the town of Savanah, Wayne County, New York records a Stephen Van Blaracum. This may or may not have been Eleanor's husband. It lists him as being forty-eight years of age and a farmer. Listed below his name is Eliza (32) and John (14). This Eliza may have been his second wife after Eleanor had died. One source states that Eleanor died in early womanhood near Conquest, New York. A postmortem revealed an enlarged kidney, which was the cause of her death. It is assumed she was buried at Conquest Village Cemetery where other members of the Lucas clan were interred. There are several headstones with various spellings of VanBlaricum's that have been identified. However, Eleanor's gravesite has not been located.
