Griffin William Henry
William Henry Griffin, a veteran of the civil war and for many years a resident of this city and vicinity, died at the home of his son in the south west part of this city [Mason City], Sunday evening after an illness of one week with lung fever.
The decedent was born in Tazewell County, June 15, 1838. He was married to Miss Emaline Newberry, the result of this union being the birth of four sons and four daughters, five of whom, with his wife have died. Mr. Griffin was a member Company E, twenty-seventh Illinois volunteer infantry during the Civil War.
He is survived by the following children; James B. Griffin, of this city, Mrs. Rosa Norman and Mrs. Edith Cargill, of Venice; besides the following brothers: John M., L. T., and Martin, of Mason City: Issac L. of Peoria, and George R. Griffin of East Grandin, Mo.
The funeral services were held from Culp's undertaking parlors on Tuesday at 2 o'clock p.m. and were conducted by Rev. E. L. Lord, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The interment was made in the Mason City Cemetery.
