Sgt. John D. Aragon, 22, of Antioch, Calif.; was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died June 12 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. His awards and decorations include: Army Achievement Medal (2 awards); National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Air Assault Badge; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert.Survived by his parents John A. and Denise Luna Aragon of Antioch. Maternal Grandparents: David M. (US Army, Signal Corp) and Celia Luna of Oakley. Paternal Grandmother: Margaret Aragon of Antioch. Two sisters: Christina and Brianna Aragon; one niece and God daughter Isabella Aragon Hicks; Aunt Lydia Luna (Glenn) Macy; Aunt Doreen (Luna) and her daughter Victoria Alexander; two uncles: Everett and James Aragon and their children; his true homie Joe Reed. He was preceded in death in 1981 by his Grandfather John C. Aragon, US Army, 82nd Airborne.
