Army Sgt. Ian C. Anderson, 22, of Prairie Village, Kan.; assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; died Jan. 15 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Lillian Anderson Trust Fund. Ian was born January 8, 1985, in Kansas City, Missouri to John and Elaine (Ralston) Anderson. He attended Shawnee Mission East High School before joining the Army in September 2003, where in 3 years he accomplished the rank of Sergeant. Ian was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He took pleasure in playing soccer with his brothers and sisters, loved being outdoors and caring for wildlife. He was extremely kind and giving to all children. He wanted all children to live a life of happiness and freedom. Ian was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson and friend. He cherished moments spent with family and friends. Ian was eager to begin a career in computer technology and had an exuberance for computer gaming. Ian is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Mason) Anderson and daughter Lillian, both of Prairie Village; mother, Elaine Anderson and her fiance, Ronald Frazier of Overland Park; father, John Anderson of Merriam; six siblings: David Anderson, Lenexa, Angel (Chuck) AndersonZinkand, Baltimore, MD, Rachel (Todd) Wascher, Fremont, NE, John Andrew Anderson, Kansas City, MO, Derek Anderson, Merriam, and Ellen Anderson, Merriam; two nieces, Isabelle Anderson and Gwendolyn Wascher; one nephew, Anderson Wascher; mother and fatherin-law, Debbie and Terry Mason, Prairie Village; sister-in-law, Tara Mason, and brother-in-law Kyle Mason, both of Prairie Village; and a host of extended family and friends.
