Mary Dowdy Hill was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Dowdy of Chatham County, North Carolina -- the younger sister of six older brothers. She grew up in Chatham County and married Duncan McIntyre 1836 in Chatham County. They migrated a few months later into Tennessee, where two sons were born: Archibald T McIntyre (1838-1864) and John Wesley McIntyre (1840-1906).
Shortly after the birth of their second son, Duncan and Mary moved on the Lauderdale County, Alabama, while her brother, Allen Dowdy, went northwest into Stoddard County, Missouri with his family. Three additional sons and one daughter were born in Alabama.
Duncan died 02 Nov 1851 in Alabama of Typhoid Fever. Mary married for a second time in Lauderdale County, AL 08 May 1855 to Nelson Garrett Hill. They had one child -- a daughter, Mary Reeder Hill, born 1855 in Alabama.
Mary died of old age at age 99 yrs and 6 months in Chambers County, Alabama.
