Arvie Zena Telemisus Donham Dowdy was born in Marion County, Alabama to William Jefferson Donham and Sarah Ann Duke Donham. She married James Thomas Wiley Dowdy about 1885.
In November 1901, Thomas William Dowdy had taken a bale of cotton to the gin in Granite, OK. While waiting for the cotton to be ginned, something spooked the team of mules and caused Thomas to fall off the dock onto his head, causing his death. She was widowed with six children and pregnant when her husband died.
On February 27, 1902, Lewis Floyd Dowdy was born during a big blizzard. A neighbor rode a horse to Granite from Willow to get a doctor, but the doctor could not come. He then went to Mangum, and the doctor there was not able to get out in such bad weather. Arvie Zenia hemorrhaged to death while waiting. The horse that the neighbor rode died, also.
