William A. Shafer, 31, Tiffin trucking contractor, died Tuesday night in a hospital in Wyandotte, Mich. The victim of an automobile accident which occured the night before. Mrs. Shafer was in Wyandotte at the bedside of her husband when the death occured and was expected to return here with the body late this afternoon. Megar details of the accident were received here Tuesday and were announced by the Advertiser. No other information in regards to the crash in which Shafer was injured has been received here. The Tiffin man had been operating a trucking business from his city and had been making frequent trips to Detroit. He was on one of these trips when the accident occurred.

Shafer resided here at 150 Ella St. He is survived by his wife and four children, William, George, Esther Elizabeth, and Dorothy Marie all at home.


William A. Shafer, contractor and truck line operator living at 150 Ella street, died Tuesday night in a Wyandotte, Mich., hospital from injuries sustained Monday in an auto accident near Wyandotte. He left here Monday morning for a short trip.

Details of the accident and the nature of his injuries could not be learned here today from friends. Mrs. Shafer went to Wyandotte late Monday night and will accompany the body here late today.


The body of William A. Shafer, 31, who died in a Wyandotte, Mich. hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident on the Telegraph Road, Monday night was brought to Tiffin last night. Details of the accident were given by his widow who was called to his bedside immediately after the accident. Shafer was driving back from Detroit in his sedan when he collided with a car driven by Detroit people. The accident happened about two miles south of Flat Rock, Mich. Both cars were badly damaged.

Shafer suffered internal injuries and died the following night after being taken to the hospital. The occupants of the other car were cut and bruised by not seriuously injured. They were taken to Detroit for treatment. Blinding headlights along the heavily traveled Toledo-Detroit road was blamed for the accident. He died from internal injuries.

Shafer was born in Wyandot county near Upper Sandusky Feb. 20, 1896, the son of Clinton and Mary Courtad Shafer. He was united in marriage to Miss Gladys Heilman of Berwick April 30, 1917 who, with his parents and four children, William D., Esther Elizabeth, Dorothy Marie and George Vidal survive.

He is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Harry Shafer, both of Upper Sandusky. Robert was at his brother's bedside at the time of his death. He was engaged in the general trucking business here and lived with his family at 150 Ella St.

The body of William A. Shafer, 32, Tiffin contractor who died Tuesday night in Wyandotte, Mich., as a result of injuries received in an auto accident was brought here late Wednesday afternoon and taken to the Kishler funeral home.

Shafer, who resided at 150 Ella st., left Monday for a business trip through Michigan. The accident occurred that night about 9 o'clock two miles south of Flat Rock, Mich. The front end of the Shafer car was crushed and the steering wheel jammed against Shafer's chest. He was rushed to Wyandotte where he died at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday night. Mrs. Shafer arrived there late Monday, and accompanied the body to Tiffin Wednesday.

Mr. Shafer was a son of Clinton and Mary Shafer and was born in Wyandot county, Ohio. He married Miss Gladys Shafer in April, 1917. Besides his widow, he is survived by four children; William, George, Esther Marie (sic) and Dorothy Elizabeth (sic) at home. Two brother, Robert and Harry Shafer of Upper Sandusky also survive.
