Martha Washington Laney Ball was born in Kentucky, January 11, 1842 and died July 6, 1929 at the age of eighty-seven years, five months and five days.
She came to Missouri with her parents in her childhood days. She was married to Daniel Jesse Ball February 4, 1864. To this union were born nine children, all of whom are living except one who died in infancy.
She professed faith in Christ during her early life and after living a long and happy married life and helping to rear her children to manhood and womanhood the Almighty Father sent an angel to carry her home.
Aunt Martha as she was known to those outside the family circle, was always a loving mother and faithful friend. Although she has been feeble for several years, she was able to get around in the house at her own pleasure until her sudden sickness just three weeks before her death. Many times she has spoken of what a joy it would be when she could go home and join her loving companion who was laid to rest nine years ago, and other relatives who had passed on before. We feel sure she lived a christian life and has a home awaiting her in Heaven and pray that all her children will meet her on that great judgment day.
Kind neighbors and friends assisted her children in ministering to her every comfort and need.
She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grant Rector, of Roscoe, Mo., where she had made her home for the past few years.
She is survived by eight children as follows: John Ball, Eureka, Kansas; James Ball, Yakima, Washington; Jesse, Charley and Fred Ball, Humansville, Mo; Mrs. Grant Rector, Roscoe; Mrs. James Marlow, Deepwater; Logan Ball, Kalvesta, Kansas, all of whom were at her bedside sometime during her illness except James Ball of Yakima, Washington.
This dear old soul will be greatly missed, but our loss is her gain. Her remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the Freeman cemetery July 7, 1929, J.D. Young, officiating.
Card of Thanks---We wish to thank the friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us in the sickness, death and burial of our dear mother.
She was married to Daniel Jesse Ball February 4, 1864 in the home of J. W. Laney, who might be her father, but no records found to date to document that.
