George D. Willis, aged 78, well known citizen of Cambridge, passed away at his home on Elm Street Saturday night at 10:30 o'clock. He had been ill of diseases due to advanced age for four weeks.
Mr. Willis was born in Jefferson township. For 34 years he had made his home in this city and for 26 years had been employed at the Cambridge Glass Plant. He was night watchman at the factory until a few years ago when he became gardener for A.J. Bennett, president of the glass company. He was known as a man of excellent qualities and had wide circle of friends.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Jemima Barr Willis, whom he married 54 years ago, and the following children; Mrs. William Trout of Vandergrift, Pa., Samuel B. Willis, Cambridge; Miss Ada, of Zanesville; Mrs. Clifford Stanley of Newton Falls; James A. Willis of Cambridge; Mrs. Elmer Chandler, Miss Margaret and Miss Helen Willis, of the home; Mrs. Elmer Walsh, of Newton Falls a granddaughter, who was reared by Mr. and Mrs. Willis; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Two sons, one daughter, and one brother, James Willis, are deceased.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis observed their golden wedding anniversary here four years ago and were making preparations to observer their 55th anniversary next year.
The deceased was a member of the First U.P. church since young manhood. He was a devoted Christian and took active part in the church work.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home on Elm Street, conducted by Rev. H.A. Kelsey of New Concord, assisted by Rev. Ora J. Shoop, pastor of the Cambridge First M. E. church. Interment will be made in the City Cemetery.
