Loretta Jane Gray Adcock
Loretta was the second of three children born to William M.R. Gray and Minerva Tennessee Price April 3, 1878 In Collinsville, DeKalb County, Alabama. Their first child, James Almon, born 1876, died as an infant. She had a younger brother, William Kelly Gray (1880-1913). She was only four years old when her mother died of tuberculosis. Loretta had two step-mothers while growing up, Julia Isom (1862-1884)and Mary "Fannie" Hill (1868-1946).
Since her dad was working for the railroad and was transferred to Texas, Loretta was married to John Berry Adcock in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas December 1, 1896 which followed a period of letter-writing between them with Loretta in Waskom, Texas and John in Timpson where his aunt, Louella Adcock Thornton, lived with her family.
Loretta and John had eight children and only one, William Rufus Adcock (1897-1897) born in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas died young, living only six days. The others are linked to this memorial.
She was widowed in September. 1937 and died one month and one day later, October 8, 1937, in El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas from the effects of diabetes and also abdominal cancer and was buried next to her husband, John, in the Camp Creek Cemetery, Spearsville, Union Parish, Louisiana.
