Miss America Pageant Winner. The first Miss Utah to wear the crown, she took top honors for 1952. Raised in Salt Lake City, she attended Brigham Young University where she was the 1947 Homecoming Queen. In 1951 Colleen entered the Miss America preliminaries and ultimately was crowned in Atlantic City; following the completion of her required Miss America duties, she appeared in the revue "John Murray Anderson's Almanac" which opened a six month Broadway run in December of 1953, married New York Knicks' player Dr. Ernie Vandeweghe, and concentrated on raising her family. Her son is NBA coach and retired player Kiki Vanderweghe, while her daughter is 1976 Olympic swimmer and volleyball player Tauna Vanderweghe. Colleen lived out her days in Southern California and died following a six month illness. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
