|Death: ||Nov. 6, 1620|
William Button or Butten was the only Mayflower passenger to die at sea, just 3 days prior to the sighting of land at Provincetown, Cape Cod Harbor, in Massachusetts.
William Bradford referred to him as a "youth" and he worked as a servant to Samuel Fuller. His ancestry is not known, but he may have been the William Button, son of John, who was baptized March 13, 1605 at Worksop, Nottingham, where some of the original Separatists came from.
William has one cenotaph in Provincetown.
It is in the Mayflower Passengers who died at Sea Memorial.
