Owen R. Jones was born on May 20, 1835 at Aberfran, North Wales. At the age of twenty-one he came to the United States. He lived successively in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mississippi, Alabama and Illinois, and was engaged in farming in Knox County, Illinois when the Civil War broke out.
On August 10, 1861 he enlisted in Co. C. 42nd Ill, Infantry. He took part in a number of important battles, and was honorably discharged from service on January 10, 1866.
At the close of the war he returned to Knox county, Illinois and was married to Miss Amy Sage on May 10, 1866.
He engaged in farming there until 1869, then they came to Kansas and settled in Marshall county. After two years they moved to Gage county, Nebraska, and homesteaded a farm where the town of Wymore now stands. They lived eight years there and moved to Kansas again, and made his home on a farm near Barrett until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Amy; and nine children, Mrs. Josephine Cutshal, Archie W. Jones, Horace L. Jones, O. William Jones, Mrs. Edith Johnson, Miss Elma S. Jones and Miss Margaret F. Jones all living in this vicinity, Mrs. Eila Jones Living at Wymore, Nebraska and J.O. Jones, Lawrence, Kansas; two brothers, one in Wales and the other in Emporia, Kansas.
Funeral services were held at Barrett
Church at 11:00 on Saturday with
Reverend E.T. Lacey officiating.
