Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, in Catlon Otterness Chapel with Bro. Brad Shockley officiating. Singers from the Church of Christ will sing. "Blessed Assurance," "Sundown" and "Heavenly Sunlight." Burial is in Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Pisgah Cemetery Fund and left with the funeral home.
Escorts are her grandsons, Brian, Curtis, Eddie, Gary, Jimmy, Johnny, Justin, Keith, Kevin, Marty, Randy, Ricky, Scottie, Steve and Tony Dean.
Alma Parthena Bennett was born June 22, 1913, near Long Lane, the daughter of the late Samuel Elbridge and Susie Viola (Wingo) Cheek. She died April 16, 2006, at her home near Long Lane, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 25 days.
She was reared and attended school in the Long Lane area.
She was united in marriage with Cecil Bennett on Nov. 9, 1935, and to this union 11 children were born. They made their home outside of Long Lane and owned and operated a farm as they raised their family. They worked with chicken, cattle, hogs and almost anything else associated with a farm.
She was a member of the Church of Christ north of Buffalo. She enjoyed quilting and doing crossword puzzles, and loved to read her Bible every day. She was a good cook that made do with what ever she had so that her family always had something to eat. Her cinnamon rolls were among the favorite dishes she made.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Cecil: four sons; Bob, Jim, Rex and Edward Bennett: one grandson, Bruce Bennett: one great-granddaughter, Shawna Bennett: on infant great-great-grandson: four brothers; Melvin, Buell, Hosie and Junior Cheek: and on sister, Flossie Vanzandt.
Survivors include one son, Ralph and wife, Wilma Bennett, Long Lane; six daughters; Bethel Pipkin, Harrisonville, Frances Bennett, Marshfield, Janice and husband, Clem Potter, and Nancy and husband, Dennis Skinner, all of Elkland, Letha and husband, Roger Grant, Bigsby, Okla., and Linda Bennett, of the home; one sister, Lizzie Brown, Buffalo; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and other friends and church family who will all truly miss her.
