Pfc. William D. Barker, Of Cedarville, Killed in Action In Germany

Pfc. William Dale Barker, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Barker of Cedarville, was killed in action in Germany on April 1, while serving with the 69th division of the First army. Pfc. Barker, a graduate of Freeport high school, was inducted Dec. 20, 1943, received his basic training at Camp Croft, S.C., advanced training at Camp Shelby, Miss., and left for overseas in November, 1944. He was born Aug. 1, 1925, near Cedarville. He was a member of the Methodist church of Cedarville. Prior to entering service he had been employed by Meyers Brothers at Scioto Mills. Surviving are his parents; two half sisters, Mrs. Ralph Cuming of Cedarville, Mrs. Harold Hille of Freeport, and a half brother, Ralph Wohlford, of Freeport. Pfc. Wm. D. Barker's Body Arrives Friday; Services Saturday

The body of Pfc. William Dale Barker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Barker of Cedarville, will arrive in Freeport on Friday and will be received at the Eichmeier and Becker funeral home where it will remain until Saturday at 1 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the Cedarville Methodist church at 2 o'clock Saturday, Rev. Fred Anderson, pastor of the Orangeville Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Robert S. Wilson, pastor of Cedarville Evangelical Congregational church will officiate. Interment will be in the Cedarville cemetery. Military services at the grave will be in charge of the Freeport Allied Veterans association. Pfc. Barker was killed on April 16, 1945, while serving as a squad leader with the First army, in the 69th division, at Weissenfels, Germany.
