Rites for Cpl. Ayers Schedules Tomorrow

Service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Oak Hill Baptist church for Cpl. Leonard Ayers, 20, who was killed March 15, 1945, on Iwo Jima while serving in the 4th Marine Div. Rev. R. T. Mallory will officiate and burial will be in Highlawn Memorial Park at Oak Hill with military rites by Oak Hill Post No. 3110. Veterans of Foreign Wars. The body is at Thomas mortuary in Oak Hill. Cpl. Ayers, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ayers of Minden, was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation ribbon, with bar and star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal and World War II Victory medal. Surviving besides his parents are three brothers, Gordon of Minden, Kenneth of Oak Hill and Howard of New York; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Hamilton, St. Albans, Mrs. Henry Dixon and Mrs. Thelma Baldry, both of Minden.
