Mae Dell Deacon, age 92, was a native Californian. The former Mae Dell Parrish was born on what was then known as the Grangeville Vineyard northwest of Hanford. Her mother, the former Martha Robinson, came to California in a covered wagon when she was six weeks old. The Robinsons had settled first in Gilroy then on a ranch at 15th Avenue and Lacey Boulevard. When the Parrish girls were ready to attend school, the family moved to Grangeville so they would be near the schoolhouse and the family was active in community and church affairs. In 1900, they moved to 618 N. Redington St. so the girls could attend high school.
In 1907, Mae married Roual Deacon who was in the lumber business in Lemoore and later in Fresno. After his death in 1937, Mrs. Deacon moved back to Hanford and built a little house at 614 N. Redington St. next to the old family home.
Mrs. Deacon had been active in Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth, Hanford Woman's Club and PEO Sisterhood. Her main interest had been her church, and she had been a member of the Methodist congregation since 1900, and of the Hanford United Methodist Church by Certificate of Transfer from Fresno First Methodist Church May 28, 1939. She served on the official board and numerous offices of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and its predecessor, the Ladies Aid. She was instrumental in guiding a number of the young women into church work. Her entire life was spent as a homemaker and community citizen with much service rendered through her church and its organizations.
