P. Brown, Maxwell Pioneer, Dies Sunday
Civil War Veteran. Enlisted as a Private on October 14, 1861 at the age of 16. Joined Co. E, 13th Iowa Infantry Regiment on October 28, 1861. Received a disability discharge on October 12, 1862 at Corinth, MS.
"Funeral services will be held here Tuesday for Peter Brown, 90, pioneer Iowa farm implement merchant who died at the home of his daughter in Des Moines Sunday. He had been at the veteran's hospital for some time, but was removed to his daughter's home two weeks ago. He suffered a stroke in October.
Services will be conducted at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church and burial will be in the Maxwell cemetery. Mr. Brown had resided here in his earlier years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Olinger of Clear Lake and Mrs. Laura Callen of Des Moines, at whose home he died, and four sons, Ross, Lewis and Adelbert, all of Portland. Ore., and Henry of near Cambridge."
