Olivia "" Mary (Nickerson) Brooks, 67, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at Redstone Rehab. & Skilled Nursing Facility in East Longmeadow, Mass.
Born in Rockville to the late Bernard and Olive (McDonald) Nickerson, she was a graduate of Rockville High School. Olivia most recently worked for the JCC Senior Services Lunch Program in Springfield, including serving lunches at GreenLeaf Center. Olivia was known as an avid quilter and knitter. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed her many trips to Ireland. She was vice president of the Women's Auxiliary Club of the Italian American Club in Springfield. Livey will be dearly missed by her many friends there as well as those from the Jewish Nursing Home and the JCC.
She is survived by her companion of 16 years, Sean P. Murphy of Springfield; her daughter, Lisa Gillespie, and her husband, William, of Enfield; her two sons, David J. Brooks Jr. of Enfield, and Sgt. Darren B. Brooks of Tennessee; three brothers, Ronald Nickerson, and his wife, Charlotte, of Maryland, Alan Nickerson, and his life partner, Larry Arpino, of Torrington, and Michael Nickerson of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Tyler E. Wadsworth, Kaitlin, Austin, and Hannah Brooks, and Brittany Gillespie; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; extended family, Joanne Dooley, and her husband, Richard, and Phillip and Darlene Murphy. Livey leaves a very dear and special friend, Louise Wroten, and her husband, Charles, of Maryland.
Family and friends are invited to meet for Olivia's memorial service on Saturday, March 5, at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 915 Plumtree Road, Springfield. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olivia's memory to the Senior Services Nutritional Program, 66 Industry Ave., East Springfield, MA 01104.
