Maurine Torgensen Nielson 1917 ~ 2006 Maurine Torgensen Nielson, 88, passed away peacefully October 17, 2006 at her Salt Lake home. Maurine was born to Henry Torgensen and Maybelle Hunt Torgensen December 1, 1917 in Monroe Utah. She grew up in Monroe and Koosharem. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1936 and married Hunt Nielson in 1938 in Orderville, Utah. She raised her family in Bingham Canyon, Utah where Hunt got work in the mines. Maurine served in numerous church positions in both Bingham and West Jordan where she moved after leaving Bingham. She was Girl Scout Leader and MIA President in Bingham. She worked for many years at Levoys as a seamstress and as Inspection Supervisor. Maurine was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for family and friends. She made blessing dresses and tuxedos for every newborn within reach. Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Hunt. She is survived by her three children, Patricia, Derald and Carol; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was honorary Grandmother for dozens of neighborhood children throughout her life. Funeral Services will be held Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the LDS Chapel at 7265 So. 2700 W., West Jordan. Friends and family can attend a viewing Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, and Monday at the church from 11:45-12:45 p.m. Interment will be Tues. at 1 p.m. in Monroe, Utah.
