Private Locke was born in Robeson Count [NC] and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Robeson County at age 23, March 10, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded at Fort Wagner, Charleston, South Carolina where he died on August 21, 1863, of wounds.
He was included in a list of casualties of those who were from Battery Wagner on July 18, 1863, as published by the Charleston Daily Courier newspaper. He was mortally wounded in the right side.
In his official records, his name is spelled Lock.
