Birth: Jan. 1, 1806
Death: Oct. 10, 1896

The History of Murphysboro book says he was born in Germany, in the 1850 census, he is listed as born in France and in the 1880 census Germany. Probably, he was from the Alsace-Lorraine. He was remarkable for his fund of humor and wealth of anecdotes. In 1855 he moved to DeSoto Twp. and represented Jackson County in the lower house of the Illinois General Assembly.

Peter had 8 children with his first wife Nancy: Eliza D, Matilda O,Elizabeth, Mary, James Daniel, Sarah Jane, Catherine Ella and Emily.
Peter had 3 children with his second wife, Agnes (Lawrence) Grosvenor: Nancy G, Adeline and Abigail E. Agnes had 4 children with John Grosvenor: Parker, Mary A, Sarah and Martha. Parker named one of his sons, Peter Kiefer Grosvenor, so he must have respected his step father, he was in his late teens when his mother remarried. Peter and Agnes were both widowed.
