Walter E. Oswald, 71, of Adams, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 27, 1932, in Breda, Iowa, to Henry and Laura (Srote) Oswald.
He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Willey, Iowa and attended college while in the U.S. Navy.
On Nov. 3, 1956, he married Marlene Wessling at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Carroll, Iowa. They lived in Adams, where Walt was a farmer.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Johnsburg, Adams Post #146 American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 VFW.
His hobbies included fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Oswald, Adams; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Judy Oswald, Adams; Douglas and Kim Oswald, Elysian; daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn Oswald, Adams; Carolyn and Mike Johnson, Black River Falls, Wis.; Mary Jo Oswald, Somerset, Wis.; six grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes Louis, Carroll, Iowa; Marie and Max Bell, West Des Moines, Iowa; Leona Seidl, Dedham, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Phyllis Oswald, Carroll, Iowa; Andy and Iris Oswald, Omaha, Neb.; Dick and Emily Oswald, Coon Rapids, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, David; his parents, one brother, two sisters, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, July 16, 2004, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Adams, with Father James Seitz officiating. Casket bearers will be Phil Studer, Nathan Mullenbach, Roger Jax, Wayne Schramm, George Nolte, Linus Knobbe, Dwain Vangsness and Adrian Gerber.
Family Interment: St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Johnsburg, with military rites by Adams Post #146 American Legion.
