|Death: ||Oct. 27, 1918|
JKP Lewis was born 1845 in Warren Co. TN, the ninth child of Russell and Delilah Moore Lewis. I have no record of him being in the war between the states, but four of his other brothers had served in the CSA,with the 35th Regiment,Company "A", Tennessee Infantry (5th Infantry), (1st Mountain Rifle Regiment),during the Civil War. 1870 Census shows him with brothers Thomas C. and Samuel H. Lewis, working on the farm with their mother Delilah Lewis, and P.Annette Lewis, Thomas's wife. Their father Russell Lewis is not at home.It was noted that JKP Lewis had been to Texas in the mid 1880's, and had returned in time for Delilah Moore Lewis's funeral, in June of 1888. He was also mentioned in the Will of his brother Samuel H. Lewis in Aug 1889. Shortly after Samuel's death, the Lewis family made the move to Falls Co., Texas and then to the Waco area of McLennan Co., Texas. In 1897 JKP Lewis moved with his brother Thomas C. Lewis and his family, to the area around Hawley, Jones Co., Texas. Sometime after 1900 JKP Lewis moved to Arizona. On 27th Oct 1918,at age 73, JKP Lewis died of pneumonia in the St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. His body was shipped back to Hawley, Jones Co. for burial. His nephew, Claude Lewis and a family friend, James Lantrip received and buried JKP in the Hawley Cemetery.
