He was reportedly the son of James Chipman and Mary Minor, although earlier records report Elder Perez Chipman and Margaret Wheeler of Sussex Co., Delaware. His wife was Margaret Manlove. Perez Chipman's burial is the oldest one in Deep Friends Church Cemetery.
