Peter was a son of Adolf Schlett.
He was married on 30 Oct 1851 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts by Rev. J.A. Foerset, to Eva Schlett.

Peter was naturalized on 5 Nov 1855 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
He served in the Civil War. He enlisted 1st on 18 Jul 1861 in Company C, 20th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged on 13 Jan 1862. He enlisted 2nd on 29 Jul 1863 at Ashland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in Company B, 2nd Regiment, Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. He was discharged on 3 Sep 1865. He enlisted 3rd on 12 Feb 1866 at Fort Adams, Rhode Island, in Company D, 3rd Regiment Artillery, United States Army. He was discharged on 18 Jun 1871 at Key West, Florida.
He was admitted to the Eastern Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Togus, Kennebec County, Maine on 6 Sep 1871 and died of consumption on 26 Oct 1871.
