MELROSE -- William L. Adamson, 72, of River Road, Melrose, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after being stricken at his home. Born January 2, 1926 in Greenwich, NY, son of the late Robert H. and Katherine Toronto Adamson. He was the widower of Marie P. McQuain, who died in 1979. Before his retirement, he was a machinist for the former Albany Felt in Menands. A veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, he obtained the rank of PFC, serving with the Fourth Marine Division. He received the Presidential Citation, Four Battle Stars and a Navy Commendation. He was a member of the Fourth Marine Division Association, a member of the Iwo Jima Veterans Association and a member of the Lansingburgh Historical Assoc. Survivors include two sons, Thomas M. Adamson of Mechanicville and Joseph H. Adamson of Bethel, CT; three daughters, Cynthia June Darrow of Easton, NY, Mary Elizabeth Adamson of Mechanicville and Charan Kanoa Adamson of Troy; also survived by 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Chase Funeral Home, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Greenwich Cemetery, Greenwich, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 41, Schaghticoke, NY 12154, in his memory.
