Billie Mansell Allen, 85 years of age, 1562 Fort Hill Drive, Seneca, S.C., died April 18, 2008, at the Clemson Downs Healthcare Center. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 yrs, Robert M. Allen. Billie was born on February 7, 1923, in East Moline, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Willard S. Mansell and Hazel Harrelson Mansell and was preceded in death by her siblings: Lory J. Sullivan, Charles Sullivan, Marie Mansell, Sylvia Saddorus and Lorene Chidester.
She is survived by three children, Betty Allen Boyles and her husband, Craig, of Anderson, S.C.; Mary Gretchen Bizzigotti and her husband, George, of Herndon, Va.; and Reed Allen of Easley; two grandchildren, Michele Boyles Taylor and husband, Stephen, of Simpsonville, S.C., and Jason Boyles and wife, Nicole, of Anderson, S.C.; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Taylor. Also surviving are Beth Boyles Martinez and husband, German, of Easley, their daughter, Kristina Jayne and husband, Brandon, and son, Ashton; a niece, Karen Hall and husband, Don, of Duncan, Oklahoma. She leaves in good care their special Australian Shepherd, Ty.
Billie was a member of the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve during WWII and was stationed in Washington, D.C. "Miss Billie," as she was affectionately called, taught in a country school in Saucier, Mississippi, before moving to S.C. in 1966. "Miss Billie" was the Assistant Librarian at Edwards Junior High and worked at Robin Hood Wool Shop in Clemson, S.C. She is fondly remembered by the many people whom she taught needlework. She opened her own shop, The Village Curio, on the square in Pendleton in the 70's and later opened a children's shop, Beary Classy, with friends. "Miss Billie" was recognized by the Town of Pendleton for her contributions to the town and given a Key to the City. She was very active in the Pendleton Merchant's Guild and the Clemson University Forestry Wives Club. She attended the Lewis G. Watkins Detachment 1131 - Oconee County.
Her wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned. The family is at the home of a daughter, Betty A. Boyles, 129 Alisha Drive, Anderson, SC
