Professional Football Player. For three seasons (1947 to 1949), he played at the left-guard position in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He distinguished himself early as an athlete, as he was captain of the football team at Rochester High School (Pennsylvania) and while with Penn State, he received All-Pennsylvania and All-East Tackle honors. His collegiate career yielded to his service with the United States Navy with whom he served on a destroyer during World War II. Selected by the Steelers during the 14th round of the 1947 NFL Draft, Moore had an immediate impact in the league as he earned All-Pro honors (1947). He concluded his playing career in 1949, after appearing in 36 total NFL games. Moore would remain in the sport to serve as head coach at Allegheny College, followed by a stint as an assistant at Cornell University. He later moved onto a career as a salesman of athletics merchandise. (bio by: C.S.)
