Claire Dearing (nee Woodcock), 73, of Cinnaminson, NJ and Conneaut Lake, PA, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her home in Willow Valley Retirement Communities.

She was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Caroline (Baker) Woodcock. Born in Chester, PA, Mrs. Dearing lived most of her life in Haddonfield, Medford and Cinnaminson, NJ.

Claire graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1955, from Beaver College in 1959 with a B.A. degree in English, and from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, in 1964 with a M.Ed. in Personnel and Guidance.

Mrs. Dearing worked as both a teacher and a school counselor in Deptford, Audubon, Moorestown, Cherry Hill and most recently in Washington Township, NJ school districts for almost twenty five years.

Claire was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and a choir member.

Mrs. Dearing is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Schofield Dearing; two sons: John Wesley, husband of Beth of Vienna, VA and David Bentley, husband of Amy of Lancaster, PA; five grandchildren: Alexander, Madelyn, Brooke, Andrew and Samantha. She is also survived by her brother: C. Wesley, husband of Sheila Woodcock of Colorado; two nieces: Allison, wife of David Marshall and Amye, wife of KJ Lengtat, and a nephew: Charles Woodcock. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Upshur Woodcock.

A Christian memorial service will be held at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, 4th Street and Lippincott Avenue, Riverton, NJ on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, the Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125, or the Calvary Presbyterian Church Special Endowment Fund, 300 Fourth St., Riverton, NJ 08077.
