Marine Staff Sgt Cohee was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361 (HMH-361), the "Flying Tigers" of Marine Aircraft Group 16, Combined Task Force 58, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California. Cohee was killed in a crash of a Ch-53 Super Stallion Helicopter. Trae grew up in Mardela and enjoyed playing basketball, the piano and skateboarding. As he got older, he worked as a volunteer with the Mardela Springs Fire Company. Shortly after graduating from Mardela High School, he joined the Marines and became a communications navigations systems technician who worked on military helicopters. Everyone could see the difference in Trae after he joined the Marines; he went from being a kid to a man. His mother remembers his enthusiasm and loyalty to the Marines – he lived, ate, slept, breathed it. He told her, "Mom, if there's anything in the world I could do over, it would be boot camp." Trae was scheduled to come home earlier this month with other members of his unit, but was needed to stay behind to work on helicopters. No one heard him complain about it, he would say, "I didn't join the Marines to sit still. I joined the Marines to help." His fellow Marines remember him as a good crew chief and an effective leader. He was always two steps ahead of his fellow Marines, but his most important quality was his sense of humor. Trae was their morale booster out there and they wish they had gotten the chance to tell him how much he meant to them. At the burial service, two CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters — the same model that Trae's crew operated — appeared over the tree line in the east and flew overhead in a sign of tribute.
