He was a retired major from the U.S. Air Force with 34 years of service during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Retired Association of OSI Special Agents and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4615.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Martha Burke; his first wife, Peggy, and his second wife, Jean.
Emerson is survived by a son, Emerson Burke Jr. of Tipp City; two daughters, Natalie and husband, Page Stanley, of Alabama, and Janet and husband, Larry Gray, of Tipp City; grandchildren, Russell and wife, Stephanie Burke, Robert and wife, Lisa Stanley, Emily Stanley, Celia and husband, Matt Monnin, and Andrea Gray; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery near Brookville.
