The third of eight children born to Elisha and Mary (Blevins) Wallen of Prince George's Co MD and later VA, Joseph married Millicent "Milly" Jones abt 1768 in Pittsylvania Co VA.

In 1787, Joseph Wallen received a land grant of 640 acres from the State of NC for his service during the Revolutionary War. The land today is located on the North side of Clinch River, Hancock Co TN.

While living in Hawkins Co TN, Joseph was killed by Indians while on a trip [perhaps hunting]. He was buried in a mass grave near Wallen's Creek KY, along with others also killed.

Please Note: As can be seen from the DAR record above, Joseph's surname is spelled WALLEN. At different times in history, the name of Wallen is recorded with variations such as Wallin and Walling. The passenger list of the ship "Anne", dated Jul 1623, lists Ralph's surname as "Wallen". To avoid confusion, my ancestors descending from Ralph (1590-1633), will be named as same.
