Alvin Ross Thomas, Sr. age 90 of 153 Hudson Street, Tiffin, Ohio died at 9:00 p.m. January 21, 2003 in Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born January 13, 1913, in Hancock County to the late Harvey V. and Clara (Wise) Thomas.

He married Nina M. Hughes on June 18, 1938 in Seneca County and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include two sons, Alvin R. Thomas, Jr. of Tiffin; and Larry E. Thomas of Orlando, FL; one daughter, Patricia A. Thomas of Tiffin; one grandson, Allen R.(Melissa) Thomas of Tiffin; three great-grandchildren: one brother, Arthur B. Thomas of Vanlue; and one sister, Mabel Mikesell of Columbus.

Four brothers, Homer, Luther, Wilbur, and Orville Thomas and one sister, Lena Thomas preceded him.

Mr. Thomas was a 1932 Old Fort High School graduate, and he attended Heidelberg College for two years.

He retired in 1979 after 39 years as a mixer at ITT-Sterling Abrasive Products.

He was a member of Hopewell Church of God, where he had served as trustee and elder. He taught Sunday school, was a member of the church choir, the Faithful Few Sunday school class and the Fisher of Men Group.

He also was very active in the March of Dimes Walk and the Crop Walk.

Rev. Terry Steinhauer will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. There will be an additional one hour visitation at the church before the funeral service on Saturday.
