Computer Pioneer. He began a career in programming in 1949, and worked at companies such as RAND Corperation, IBM, Univac and Honeywell. He contributed to the development of A"SCII", which is used in nearly every computer. He is responsible for 10 ASCII keys which include the "Escape" key and the backslash key. He also first published warnings of the Y2K computer problem in 1971 and again in 1979. He appeared frequently on CNN and BBC to discuss the Y2K issue as well as discussions in "The New York Times."
