MILTON W. MATHIS
Milton W. Mathis Sr., 53, of Holly Hill, Fla. died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Holly Hill following an extended illness.
Mr. Mathis was born Feb. 6,1922 in Floyd County, son of the late Morgan A. and Eula Davis Mathis but had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and Floyd County, moving to Florida in 1962.
He was a veteran of World War II, member of the First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach, Fl., and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Association. At the time of his death he was a contractor. His father died Nov. 28,1945, his mother died July 6,1973 and his sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Brock, died June 13,1971.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Sharron K. Dodd of Augusta;three sons, W. M. Mathis Jr. of Holly Hill, Fla., Phillip Mathis of Augusta, and Dana W. Mathis of Ormond Beach Fla., five sisters, Mrs. Lena Braswell of Atlanta, Mrs. Mary Boss of Kingston, Mrs. Sue Miller of Summerville, Mrs. Sarah Ramsey of Chattanooga, and Mrs. Jessie Freeman of Rome; two brothers, R.S. Mathis of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Doyal A. Mathis of Rome; and one grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in East View Cemetery with the Rev.William Ridgeway officiating.
The body will remain at Jennings Funeral Home until time for services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Jennings Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
