WATERBURY — Michele Mike "Trooper" Guerrera, 93, of [street address removed],died Friday, March 16, 2007, at his residence.
Trooper was born in Waterbury on June 19, 1913, son of the late Saverio and Rosaria (Mucci) Guerrera.
He worked for several years as a tailor for Minicucci's Taylor Shop on North Main Street before enlisting in the Army, where he served for over 20 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received a Gold Star, Bronze Star, Silver Star and seven Purple Hearts.
He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, 11th Airborne Division Association, the Society of the First Division, Allied Airborne Association, 101st Airborne Division Association of New England Chapter and the 24th Infantry Division Association. He received a lifetime title of Honorary Gimlet for honorable service in the 21st Infantry Regiment. He was also a member of the 5th Special Forces, Special Forces Association and a life member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association, having retired from the army as a master sergeant.
He leaves three brothers, Anthony "Rip" Guerrera and Mario Guerrera, both of Waterbury, and Louis Guerrera of Milianitown, Hawaii; a brother-in-law, Alphonse Macharelli of Waterbury; and a nephew and caregiver, David R. Macharelli Sr. of Naugatuck. A brother, Joseph Guerrera, and two sisters, Norma Calabro and Catherine "Kittie" Macharelli, are deceased.
Arrangements: A graveside service with full military honors will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, with the Rev. Ronald Ferraro officiating. There are no calling hours. Chase Parkway Memorial/ The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
