Clairus L. Riggs served as a Private 1st Class in the 1st Battalion, 116th United States Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II.

He was a son of Charles Russell C. Riggs and Elva R. Riggs.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 5, 1943 at Altoona, Pennsylvania.

He was killed in action in the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was killed on the boat ramp during the landing at Dog Green Sector, Omaha Beach.

He was originally from Hottelville, Pennsylvania.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on December 16, 1947.
