He lived in the Clifford area for the past 13 years and was previously from Rochester, Michigan.
He was born on September 26, 1919 in Galatia, Ill., son to the late John and Margaret (Smith) Barton Sr.
He married Nita Williams on October 18, 1942 in Nepolan, Ohio.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1938 to 1939. He served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946.
He worked for Pontiac Motors for 30 years retiring in 1974. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 653.
He enjoyed gardening, his pets Mindy and Katy and, most of all, his family.
He is survived by his wife, Nita; daughters, Karen (Bert) Cummings Jr. of Columbiaville, MI. and Cheryl (Robert) Gabert of Lapeer, MI; sisters, Margaret Spears of Texas and Genevieve Canady of Florida; grandchildren, Michael Ackerman of Poplar Bluff, MO., Paul Gavin of West Bloomfield, MI., Melissa Jucius of Attica, MI. and Jeremy Ward of Fort Riley, KS.; and great-grandchildren, John, Joey and Aaron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vickie Barton; and sisters, Margie and Dora Maude.
Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan.
A memorial service was conducted Friday, October 31,2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.
Memorials may be donated to the American Heart Association.
