George P. Birdsong has a CSA pension application on line in the GA Archives under Upson County. He says he enlisted in 1861 in Macon, Ga and served 4 years with the Uson Guards, AKA Co. K of the 5th Ga regiment. He gives his birth as May 25th 1841 in Thomaston, Ga and says he surrendered with his unit in Greensboro, Ga in 1865. See Ga Pension 187851-00606 in the GA Archives.
Was a railroad engineer as a late adolescent. Confederate veteran, Company K, 5th Georgia Infantry. In 1884, absconded to Milam County, Texas, with Matilda Manson, born a free woman of color. Worked as night watchman in Texas. Returned to Georgia, 1901.
