Graveside services for James Albert Fortenberry, 85, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006 in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service.
Mr. Fortenberry died Sat. April 21, 2006.
Albert was born on Aug. 20, 1920 in Point, Texas to J.A. and Essie Fortenberry. He graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Technological College. Albert was a pilot. During WW II he served in the Navy and flew mapping missions. He married Willouise Humphries on May 29, 1943. He owned and operated Fortenberry Transport. After retiring, he worked for Robert Heath Trucking as Safety Director. He served as President of the Lubbock Rangers, and the AASP&RC. He joined First United Methodist Church in 1953 and served as usher for over 20 years.
Albert and Willouise have two daughters, Judy Wright and Karen Lawler; six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Albert was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Morris and Louise Godsey.
