Laurel Maudene “Lolly” Stoops, 70, died September 6, 2016 at home in Chanute, Kan. She was born April 18, 1946 in Chanute, Kan., the daughter of Daniel E. Bower, Jr. and Helen A. (Burtch) Bower. She spent her childhood in Chanute and attended Chanute schools until her family moved to Colorado in 1959. She married William Joseph Fenz in 1963. She was widowed due to an auto accident, 1965. In 1971 she married Clifford Harmon and divorced in 1978.
She returned to the Denver area, and married Ronald Frank Stoops on May 28, 1978 in Boulder, Colo. Ron was a contract engineer who worked in different states. Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Alaska, and Kansas. Lolly returned to school in 1980 and earned her G.E.D. She then attended Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, Texas where she attained an associates degree in electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical computer-aided design. She free-lanced as a computer-aided draftsman for M&M Mars Candy in Tennessee, in the engineering department of DOW Chemical Texas Operations, and Tooele Chemical Disposal Facility in Utah. She owned and operated a B&B in Fairbanks Alaska, made and sold beaded jewelry, and had a cake decorating business.
She enjoyed traveling, cooking, cross-stitch, jewelry beading, hiking, camping, music, musical theater, dancing, genealogy and grave research. She has been a certified Junior Bowling Coach, a Cub Scout leader, assisted with high school theater makeup and dress, choreographed the dance routines for high school musicals, built stage scenery and backdrops, and she enjoyed instructing country-western swing dance and line dance.
