Reverend Thomas H Dixon, 86, a prominent Free Will Baptist preacher and church organizer, died Wednesday afternoon in Muskogee General Hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Checotah Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Staten of Knoxville, Tenn, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with Smith Funeral Home in Charge. Pallbearers will include grandsons.

Free Will Baptist pastors will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family prefers memorials to the Rev. T.H. Dixon Scholarship Fund at Hilldale Free Will Baptist College, Moore.

During his long tenure as pastor Rev Dixon established several Free Will Baptist churches. He organized the Hitchita Free Will Baptist church in 1932 and served as pastor until 1937. In 1939 he organized the First Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah and served as pastor 11 years. He organized the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church at Hilltop and was its pastor at the time of his death.

Born June 21, 1887 in Hector, Arkansas, Reverend Dixon moved to Oklahoma in 1931. He pastored churches in both Arkansas and Oklahoma and served as state moderator for both Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane of the home, six sons, Chester, Virgil, Truman and Leon, all of Checotah, O.T. of Norman and J.R. (Junior), of Haskell; five daughters,
Ollie Kindell of Hitchita, Artie LeMasters of Checotah, Mrs Edith Haczklewiez of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Mrs Esther Jo Graham of Clarksville, Arkansas and Mrs LoDema Vaugh of Muskogee; 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

A daughter, Fern Caskey, died about 5 years ago.
