Services will be at 2 PM Monday in Memorial Park East Mausoleum Chapel with Mike Ecker pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Blue Knights Honor Guard from Altus Air Force Base.
Mr. Bettag was born August 14, 1928 in Clarksville, Indiana. He moved to Amarillo in 1974 from Abilene. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War where he served six tours of duty. He retired after 20 years of
honorable service.
After retiring from the Air Force Mr. Bettag attended West Texas State University where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for Bell Helicopter until his retirement in 1989.
He married Flora Faye Morris in 1953. She preceded him in death in 2000.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He loved to golf and collect coins.
He was also preceded in death by two daughters Diedra Bettag in 1974 and Cindy Bettag in 2010.
Survivors include three sons Mike Bettag of Kingston, Oklahoma. Marvin R. Bettag and Marcus A. Bettag both of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be to Immanuel Baptist Church, 927 North Mirror Street Amarillo, Texas 79107.
There will be no visitation on Christmas Day.
