Mark is my second cousin. I had only met him once or maybe twice. When I met him and his brother, they hadn't even started school yet, and could name every state and capital in the U.S., but also knew just about every Country in the World. We have such a small family and yet us living so far from them, we never got to know each other. His mother however has always reached out to our family and pray the Lord gives her and family comfort through these hard times.

I would first like to thank Reverend Carpenter here at St Annes for her many visits to Suburban hospital these last few weeks to see Mark. It really is incredible to see the dedication she has to her congregation and especially to her friend Mark.

I would also like to thank all the really super people from St Annes who volunteered to drive Mark back and forth to his Chemotherapy treatments in Bethesda for the past 5 years. Your time helped give Mark many more years and both Ed and the hinckley family truly thank you for that wonderful gift!!!

The last few days since Marks passing have been tough on everyone who knew him, but it has given me time to reflect on all the good times we had together and also reflect on what made my brother who he is.

The one theme that kept re-occurring in my thoughts about Mark can be summed up in 1 word¡¦.

Of course the 1st thing that comes to mind is his battle with colon cancer for the last 5 ¨ö years. Not only was Mark brave in facing this daunting challenge, but his incredible will to live and great attitude really showed his character as a person. He always had a positive outlook and always knew he was going to beat the cancer. And actually he did beat the cancer the 1st time, he was in remission for over a year.
